Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has released its 7th and newest flagship of video gaming consoles, on March 3rd, to duel for the spotlight against the reigning gaming consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo never ceases to amaze us with its weird but unique hardware design of its gaming systems. The Nintendo Switch is considered as a hybrid gaming console, that can be played as both a portable handheld device or connected to a home TV.

Console

The main unit of the Switch is its console. The console is an LCD, battery powered tablet/monitor  that is approximately 4 by 9.4 by 0.55 inches in dimension, 6.2 inches diagonally and weighs about 0.66 lbs. There are slide rails on each side of the console to allow the attachment of the Joy - Cons. The unit itself includes a game card (cartridge) and a micro SD slop. The console has a 2.5 – 6.5 hours battery life depending on the game you’re playing.

The Dock

The Switch can be placed in its dock to enable TV gaming. The dock measures approximately 4.1 by 6.8 by 2.12 inches in dimension and weighs about 0.72 lbs. At the back, the dock houses five ports; one USB 3.0 port & 2 USB 2.0 ports, an ac adapter port and an HDMI port.

Controllers: Joy - Con L and Joy - Con R

The Switch has two controllers called the Joy-con L (left) and Joy - Con R (right). They weigh about 1.7 oz & 1.8 oz respectively. These controllers can be attached or detached from the Switch console and Joy - Con Grip via slide rails. They can be used independently as a pair by a single player, as separate controllers by two individual players or attached to the Joy - Con Grip that imitates a game pad form factor.

The Switch also comes with a Joy - Con Strap that can be attached for a safer experience during game play and also features two additional buttons for a better individual Joy - Con gaming experience.

Joy - Con Grip

The Joy - Con Grip is an accessory that holds two Joy - Cons and gives the user the feel of a natural game pad.

Price

The introductory price which includes the Switch Console and Dock, two Joy - Cons,
two Joy – Con Straps, the Joy - Con Grip, a power adapter and an HDMI cable are as follows:
  • $299.99 in the U.S
  • ¥29,980 in Japan
  • £279.99 in the U.K
  • $469.95 in Australia

Personally, I think the Nintendo Switch is a convenient gaming system for young gamers as well as family oriented games, rather than hard core gaming.

  4. Even though I am not a big fan of Gaming Consoles, the Nintendo Switch has, without a doubt, captured my attention with its ability to convert from a portable Console to a T.V. connected Console and vice versa.
