iPhone 7 Product RED

iPhone 7 Product RED

The iPhone 7 entered the world with a bang, introducing two new colours (black and jet black) on its launch date, and Apple stunned the world once more on March 24, 2017 when they announced  the new brother of the iPhone 7 colours, product RED. For 10 years, Apple's partnership with RED has supported  HIV/AIDS programs that provide counseling, testing, and medicine that prevents the transmitting of HIV from mother to her unborn child. Apple declared so far they have raised over $130 million through the sale of their RED products; Now with the introduction of iPhone 7 Product RED, every sale will bring them closer to an AIDS-free generation. The colour is definitely an eye candy; said to undergo the same production design as the jet black which gives it an alluring glossy red. The phone doesn't differ in any way except its colour; it shares the same features as the iPhones released last September. This special edition iPhone is produced in 128GB and 256GB models at $749 and $869 from the Apple website respectfully.

Let me know what you think about this Apple's new special colour edition to the iPhone 7 in the comments below.

Acer Predator 21X gaming laptop

ACER'S NEWEST GAMING LAPTOP; THE PREDATOR 21X

The first thing you notice when looking at the Predator 21X is its size; It is huge, and with that size comes a massive weight of 8KG. The device is considered a portable desktop rather a laptop because of its size. The Predator 21X features a 21-inch curved display, 2560 by 1080 resolution. Yes, a curved display laptop. Acer noted that it is the first display of its kind on any laptop and it sits flush when the laptop is closed. This laptop isn't the best looking; not even close as a fact. The predator 21X lands more on the rough side; with protruding black and silver edges and a gaudy blue dragon stock graphic slapped above the keyboard; a mockup of a military laptop in action movies.

But then again, this device wasn't designed to be the most beautiful, but instead a gaming warhorse. The Predator 21 X features two GeForce GTX 1080 X graphics cards linked with Nvidia’s SLI tech, a brand-new seventh-generation Intel Core i7 processor, four DDR4 slots for up to 64GB of RAM, and up to four 512GB solid state drives, in the event you need unearthly data transfer speeds. Two of those drives can also be NVMe PCIe SSDs (five times faster than standard SATA drives), thanks to updated interface specifications. The standard hard drive configuration on the Predator 21 X will be 2TB. There’s Tobii eye-tracking built in, a mechanical keyboard with customizable backlight options, and the numeric keypad flips over to transform it into a touchpad. There are also four speakers and two subwoofers, for outsize sound performance, and five cooling fans.

The Acer Predator 21 X gaming laptop is surely an exceptional, well-engineered gaming device to hit the markets, but this exotic laptop comes with at a great cost. This laptop is available for purchase at a whopping $8,999 from retailers in the U.S.

Personally, I think this is an extraordinary gaming laptop and PC gamers will love it; However, because of its size it seems like an idle laptop for stationary gaming rather than portable gaming.

Razer Project Valerie

THE WORLD'S FIRST TRIPLE DISPLAY LAPTOP; PROJECT VALERIE

Project Valerie is another staggering attempt to change world of PC gaming. The first and most obvious features that isolated this PC from its competition is its three displays. This device was built  on top the chassis of  Razer's existing 17.3-inch Blade Pro with an entire revamp of the screen design. The lid has an entirely new housing; thick enough to tuck two 17-inch panels behind the main display. The other two displays are each attached to an articulating arm that sends the panel sliding along the rails either in or out from behind the main display. Razer said that those displays will eject from behind the primary panel automatically with either a hardware button or through software. All three displays sports the same 4K IGZO and 100% RGB colour screen, similar to the one seen in the Blade Pro. Razer has not yet released a full list of specifications for Project Valerie; but, the prototype which was used in CES 2017, is said to be running on a mobile Nvidia GTX 1080 chip. There is no price or release date, as this is far from being a product for the public consumption, but if Razer finds enough demands from users, the company just might build this gaming warhorse for real.

LG G6

 LG's FLAGSHIP OF 2017; THE LG G6.

Design

The design of the LG G6 is certainly more refined than its predecessors. The G6 is framed with a rim of aluminum and covered with two sheets of Gorilla glass; Gorilla glass 5 at the rear and an older version, Gorilla glass 3 at the front. The phone measures 148.9 by 71.97 by 7.9mm in dimensions and weighs 162g. At the bottom of the phone, there is single speaker next to a USB-C connector. LG has kept the headphone jack at the top of the phone: keeping things 'traditional'. It also features a fingerprint sensor at the back: right below the cameras. The G6 is LG's first dust- and water-resistant flagship rated at IP68; Hence, it can handle up to 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. The LG G6 comes in three colors at launch: platinum, black and white.

Camera

The G6's camera is very much similar to its predecessor with slight upgrades. It sports the same normal and wide-angle camera lenses at the back, which both are now upgraded to 13MP. However, neither the aperture or the pixel size hasn't been improved. The main image sensor packs optical image stabilization with a faster f/1.8 aperture. The other wide-angle sensor does not have image stabilization but an aperture of f/2.4.

Display

Although LG is such big advocate of OLED panels, and the quality they bring to their TVs, LG still produces their phones with LCD panels. The phone has an 18:9 ratio display rather than the typical 16:9 ration seen on almost every other smartphone. They managed to pack a bigger screen (5.7 inch display) in a shell slightly bigger than its predecessor and noticeably smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The stretched screen called for a much improved resolution. The G6 has a resolution of 2880 by 1440 pixels, pixel density of approximately 565ppi. Although the phone isn’t AMOLED it delivers vivid colours and deep blacks.

Performance

The G6 runs on Snapdragon 821, the chipset which also appears in the Google Pixel and OnePlus 3T. In benchmarks, the performance of the G6 wasn't impressive but scored similarly to the high-ends phones of 2016 and early 2017. The G6 has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There’s a microSD card slot for up to 2TB of expandable storage. LG’s UI design is far from the best; But, significantly better than the UI in its predecessor. The 18:9 ration enables you to place two square apps on top of each other, and this makes for much-improved multi-tasking.

Price

The LG G6 will be available to most retailers on April 7, and cost roughly $600 - $720. It is also currently available for pre-order at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular at different price range depending on your carrier.

Samsung Galaxy S8

SAMSUNG'S NEWEST FLAGSHIP; THE GALAXY S8.

Design

The Galaxy S8 is hands down the most beauteous smart phone on the market as of date. Like the G6 the front of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is almost all screen; 5.8 inches of screen to be exact. The S8 is thin, and incredibly light. It measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8mm in dimension and weighs only 152g. Every corner and edge has been rounded on the Samsung Galaxy S8 to give the user a very pleasing feel in the hand. It packs in wireless charging and rated IP68 water- and dust-resistant; Hence, it can handle up to 30 minutes to a depth of 1.5 metres of water. It is said that the Galaxy S8 will come in three colours at launch Midnight, Orchid Gray, and Arctic Silver.

Camera

In the Galaxy S8, all the camera specs tell the same story as its predecessor the Galaxy S7: same 12MP sensor on the rear with an f/1.7 aperture, fast autofocus etc. One of the biggest upgrade to the camera is the multi-frame image feature; When a picture is taken, the camera actually takes three shots and selects the best one for you, the camera does this with each picture you take. The auto mode is rapid and takes brilliantly sharp images every time, the pro mode is slick and fully-featured, and there are a host of other modes (included background defocus, just like in the iPhone 7 Plus). The front-facing camera has been upgraded to 8MP with a great low-light sensor. Samsung even added some face recognition effects to the front facing camera in attempt to mimic those found on Snapchat.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S8 display has taken the title of "Best smartphone screen" in DisplayMate's in-depth testing - putting it above all overs on the market. The 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display is clear, bright and colorful, with a QHD resolution. The S8 has a resolution of 1440 by 2960 pixels, a pixel density of approximately 570ppi. The phone has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, similarly to the LG G6. It also features 3D touch, Always-on display and TouchWiz UI.

Performance

The Galaxy S8 is easily one of the most powerful phones in existence. This phone has an octa-core Exynos CPU running four cores at 1.7GHz and four at 2.3GHz. It 4GB of RAM works seamlessly well when you're multi-tasking, running intensive apps, or hooked into the DEX dock to use the phone as a computer, it is lightning fast. The S8 comes with 64GB internal storage with a microSD slop for expandable storage. The S8 stacks a 3000mAh battery with wireless charging. The biggest new addition to the Galaxy is Bixby. Bixby is an AI system that Samsung says was designed to make device interaction easier, specifically designed to avoid the complexity of increasingly fully-featured devices. It will make its debut on the Samsung Galaxy S8 devices, but is designed to work across a range of Samsung products.

Price

The introductory price of the base model (64GB) Galaxy S8 are as follows:
  • $750 in the U.S.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

While everyone was expecting the Galaxy S8 to be released at MWC 2017; Instead, Samsung surprisingly announced a new device to add to their tablet lineup; The Galaxy Tab S3 to rival Apple's iPads.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 can easily be mistaken for its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S2, when viewed from the front; But, at the back, it sports an elegant glass panel in either black or silver rather than the rubberized plastic cover on the Tab S2. Although the Gorilla glass back feels way more comfortable in the hand, it's also a magnet to fingerprints and smudges. The tablet measures 237.3 by 169 by 6 millimeters  in dimensions and weighs 429g. When compared to the Tab S2, the major differences are seen and heard in the new HDR display and the four speakers.

Camera

Although a tablet is one of the less used device for taking pictures, the Tab S3 stacks a 13MP rear camera with autofocus, f/1.9 aperture and a flash. For some individuals, video chatting is a big deal. The Tab S3 front-facing camera should be of reasonable quality with its 5MP camera with a f/2.2 aperture; Unless, you're in a room with really bad lighting.

Display

Samsung is known for delivering the best screens on devices with their bright pixel-dense Super Amoled display panels; and this year is no exception for the Tab S3, with an even better display with the added HDR technology. High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology gives the same 2048 x 1536 Quad HD resolution, higher contrast ratios and brighter highlights. Although this device is equipped with such considerable technology, there are only a handful of movies/videos content available in HDR today.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 runs on Snapdragon 820, a chipset we're familiar with in several 2016 Android phones. Samsung claims that the chipset in the device can handle all of the 3D games available today, and will deliver an exceptional performance in later games. The base model of the device is 32GB internal storage, the Tab S3 also includes a microSD card slot for easy expansion.

Price

The the introductory prices of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 which includes an S pen are as follows:

  • $599 in the U.S.
  • £549 in the U.K.
  • $780 in AU
The optional keyboard is sold separately for an additional $129 ( £119).

Personally, I think the Galaxy Tab S3 is an exceptional device; But it's features doesn't convince me to upgrading from a Galaxy Tab S2.

Let me know what you think about the new Galaxy Tab S3 in the comments below.

Apple's iPad 2017

Apple's replacement of the iPad Air lineup, the "iPad"; Cheaper and faster than the iPad Air 2.

Design

Apple's 2017 iPad is the new brother of the iPad Air lineup; But, Apple decided to drop the "Air" and named the device "iPad". This device has more similarities of the first generation iPad Air than its predecessor, the iPad Air 2. The new iPad measures 240 by 169.5 by 7.5 millimeter in dimensions and weighs 469g for the Wi-fi version and 478g for the LTE. This iPad is thicker and heavier than both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 9.7". There are three colour options available ( Space Grey, Silver and Gold) and two storage capacities (32GB and 128GB). Surprisingly, it come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Camera

The cameras on this devices features the same configuration as the iPad Air 2. The rear camera sports an 8MP with a f/2.4 aperture, while front-facing camera 1.2MP with a f/2.2 aperture.

Display

There have not been any significant improvements in display resolution or quality found on the iPad Air 2. The iPad features a 9.7 inch (diagonal) Retina display with 2048 x 1536 pixels  resolution (264ppi).

Performance

The brain behind this device is Apple's A9 chip with 64- bit architecture and an embedded M9 co-processor with 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM. This unit is also found in the 2015 iPhone 6s; Hence, this device packs enough speed to run iOS 10, the latest games, and edit and export 4K videos without any hiccups.

Price

The introductory prices of the new 9.7 inch iPad are as follows:

iPad 32GB with Wi-Fi   -   $329 / £339
iPad 32GB with LTE   -   $459 / £469
iPad 128GB with Wi-Fi   -   $429 / £429
iPad 128GB with LTE   -   $559 /   £559

Although this device seems like a downgrade compared to the other iPad lineups, it packs a number of amazing features and it's the cheapest iPad available on the market.
